Relating mainly to his career as army officer, particularly service with 1st cavalry, California Volunteers, 1861-1866, in

to Christopher Carson and Joseph R. West, 1862; letter to McCleave from his commanding officer, 1862; two from McCleave to
other officers, 1862 and 1869; his record of daily activities, Ft. West, Jan.-Mar. 1863; notice of appointment as Bvt. Lt.
Col. of Volunteers, 1865; service record and list of engagements; reminiscences prepared for Society of California Volunteers;
report prepared by another member of the Society giving additional information on McCleave's army career; copy of an article
written by McCleave on his experiences in New Mexico during the Civil War; obituary notices.
